Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Vyum (“Vyum”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Vyum mobile app and related services (the “Service”). By using Vyum you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the app:

  • Account information. When you create an account we store your email address and an encrypted password (handled by our authentication provider — we never see your plain-text password).
  • Content you create. Recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, favorites, serving preferences, and similar data you add to your library.
  • Recipe imports. When you import a recipe, the photo, pasted text, or link you provide is processed to extract a structured recipe (see “AI processing” below).
  • Usage and limits. Counts of AI-powered actions you perform (to enforce free-tier limits and prevent abuse) and your subscription status.
  • Technical data. Basic information needed to operate and secure the Service, such as request timestamps used for rate-limiting.

2. How we use your information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • To store and sync your recipe library to your account.
  • To power AI features (recipe scanning, import, ingredient substitutions, translation, and the voice cooking assistant).
  • To authenticate you, send account-related emails (e.g. confirmation and password reset), and respond to support requests.
  • To enforce usage limits, prevent abuse, and keep the Service secure.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your recipes or content for advertising.

3. AI processing

Vyum’s intelligent features are powered by Anthropic (the Claude API). When you scan or import a recipe, ask for an ingredient substitution, translate a recipe, or use the voice assistant, the relevant content — such as the recipe photo, text, or your request — is sent to Anthropic’s API to generate a response. We send only what is needed to perform the requested action.

API requests are routed through our own secure server so that API keys are never exposed in the app. Anthropic processes this data to provide the response and does not use data submitted through its API to train its models. See Anthropic’s privacy practices at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

4. Service providers

We rely on a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase — authentication, database, and storage (hosts your account and recipe library).
  • Anthropic — AI processing of recipe content and requests, as described above.
  • Unsplash — recipe image search; search terms are sent to retrieve matching photos.
  • Apple App Store & Google Play — process subscription purchases. We receive your subscription status but not your full payment details.

5. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your account and associated content (recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, and favorites) from our systems. Some records may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.

6. Your rights and choices

  • Access & correction. You can view and edit your content directly in the app.
  • Account deletion. You can permanently delete your account and data at any time from Profile → Delete account in the app. This action cannot be undone.
  • Other requests. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as data portability or objection). To exercise them, contact us at the address below.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, row-level access controls that restrict each user to their own data, and server-side handling of API keys. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

8. Children

Vyum is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including by the service providers listed above. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
